The Amphitheatre

The Amphitheatre completed the trio of buildings designed to hold spectacles in (theatre, circus and amphitheatre), which were the symbols of an important Roman city and capital of an Imperial province. Its construction was made possible by the euergetic donation of a provincial flamen (Imperial priest) whose name has been lost to us, but who we know to have lived at the beginning of the 2nd century AD.

The Amphitheatre is located just outside the walled city, just before the road enters the city, and near the beach, where the animals used in the spectacles were disembarked.
